Donald Edward Shope, 84, of Caddo Valley, Arkansas, went to be with the Lord Friday, February 21, 2020, at the Arkansas State Veterans Home in Little Rock.
He was born April 18, 1935 in Staunton, Virginia to Robert Miller Shope Sr. and Edith Gertrude Kisling.
After high school Mr. Shope joined the United States Air Force where he became a nurse. He led an exemplary career as a Staff sergeant (SSgt) in nursing for 22 years before retiring and finishing out his lifelong passion in nursing with the V.A. of Arkansas for another 18 years.
He had many hobbies including music and dancing, played several instruments, was an amateur radio operator and enjoyed raising and training German Shepherds. He loved the Lord and was a member of the Caddo Valley Baptist Church. Mr. Shope was a lifelong member of the Elks Lodge No. 1004 of North Little Rock, and a member of the Iron Springs Masonic Lodge #342 where he became a Master Mason in 1993. He was a Shriner and he also obtained the 32nd degree in the Scottish Rite. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his daughter and four grandsons.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter Karen Gordon, brothers Rusty Kisling and Benjamin Shope, and sister Dorothy Ritchie.
Donald Shope is survived by his daughter Shanette Shope and husband Rikard Faanes of Norway, grandchildren Ramsey Shope, Adrian Shope, Mathias Faanes and Markus Faanes of Norway, sister Anita Pilkerton and husband Lenny of Waynesboro, Virginia, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Mr. Shope will be Tuesday, March 10th from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Ruggles Wilcox Funeral Home. Interment with full honors will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery.
