Hugh E. Leamons, Jr., 71, went home to be with his Lord, on Thursday, September 12, 2019, at Baptist Hospital in Arkadelphia. Hugh was born on April 24, 1948, in Camden, Arkansas to the late Hugh Elbert Sr. and Marcelle Massey. Hugh spent most of his adult life in or around Curtis, Arkadelphia, and DeGray Lake. He became a Christian in his teens while attending Union Grove Christian Church.
Hugh graduated high school class of 1966 in Minden, Louisiana. He went on to attend college at Henderson State University before being drafted into military service in 1969. Hugh served in the Navy on the USS Vesole DD878 until 1973. Hugh retired from the Arkansas Highway Department in 2008 and proudly became a part time deputy for the Clark County Sheriff’s Office in 2011.
Hugh is survived by two of his greatest loves, his son Samuel Chance Leamons and his grandson Vaden Lance Leamons, of Arkadelphia. He is also survived by his sisters Brenda Carpenter of Vaden and Lana (Larry) Shuck of Ft. Worth, TX; his sister-in-law Linda (Roderick) Chisholm, of Noblesville, Indiana; brother-in-law, Don Walters of Bethany, Missouri; 11 nieces and nephews; 15 grand-nieces and nephews and his partner in crime “Curtis”.
Hugh was preceded in death by the other great love of his life, his wife, Peggy (Walters) Leamons in 2007 after 37 years of marriage; his grandparents, Guy and Velma Massey, and his parents all of the Vaden community; his brothers-in-law, Dwight Carpenter, Dennis Walters and Ramon Walters.
Visitation will be Monday, September 16, 2019 at Ruggles Wilcox Funeral Home from 6:00 -8:00 p.m. Funeral Service are set for Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Third Street Baptist Church; interment will follow the service with full military Honors at Copeland Ridge Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be the Clark County Sheriff Office; Honorary Pallbearers are the Friends at Iron Mountain Marina. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Clark County Sheriffs Office; 406 S 5th Street, Arkadelphia, AR. 71923
