Carroll Dean Runyan, a lifelong resident of Arkadelphia, passed away quietly on December 22, 2019 following a valiant battle with cancer. Dean was born on September 21, 1935 to Leotta (Wade) and Willie Carroll Runyan. In 1956, Dean married his soulmate, Marilyn Yancey, and partnered in life with her for the next 63 years.
Throughout his life, Dean enjoyed several hobbies, including fishing and hunting and was an avid football spectator, always cheering for the Arkansas Razorbacks, the Dallas Cowboys, and was at times a closet Greenbay Packers supporter.
While generally a quiet and introspective man, Dean held deep passions for serving God through a life of example, loving his family, and being part of the Arkadelphia community. As an employee of Hardman Lumber Company for 62 years, Dean loved helping patrons solve their hardware and building issues, but mostly he loved connecting personally with his many customers and coworkers.
Dean is survived by his wife Marilyn, daughter Deborah Caddy (Rod) of Fort Worth, Texas, granddaughter Hallie “Doodles” Caddy (fiance Chaz Goad) of Nashville, Tennessee, brothers Bill (Betty) of Southlake, Texas, and Robert (Genevieve) of Waco, Texas, and many other dear family members and friends who brought him much joy through the years.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents, brother Vernon, sister Laverne Jester, and uncle/colleague/best pal Grady Runyan.
Services will be held at Third Street Baptist Church, Arkadelphia, on Saturday, December 28 at 2:00 PM with Reverends Greg Lathem and James Guthrie officiating. Visitation will be held Friday night, 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Ruggles Wilcox Funeral Home.
